The aim of this one-day course was to provide an appreciation the of services that are available through cable modems and set-top boxes. The objectives for the course were to
  • Introduce the different competing technologies and to explain the strengths and weaknesses of the services supported by each solution;
  • Describe how the different technologies support quality of service and to explain how this will be perceived by the user;
  • Show how cable modem and set-top box technologies will evolve to provide an extensive set of user services.

It was not the intention of this course to provide an in-depth description of cable networking but to provide a basic understanding of some of the new specifications.
